Antidumping and Trade Remedy Experience
As a trade consultant since 2004, Mr. Erdmann has assisted clients in Canada involved in trade remedy investigations before the CITT and CBSA. He has worked in cooperation with lawyers and other consultants as co-counsel on many notable trade remedies cases. The clients have included both domestic producers and importers. Mr. Erdmann brings in-depth economic and financial analytic skills to his consulting assignments. His areas of trade remedy expertise include market and financial data analysis, management of questionnaire responses, preparation of briefs to administrative authorities, and estimation of the effects of dumping and non-dumping factors.
Mr. Erdmann has served as a panelist in a WTO dispute settlement proceeding (2002) and in a NAFTA Chapter 19 trade dispute (2007).
From 1989 to 2004, Mr. Erdmann was Executive Director of the Research Branch of the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) where he managed internal teams responsible for the economic and commercial analysis of claims of injury by various domestic industries in anti-dumping, countervailing duty and safeguards cases. The focus of all staff work in the Research Branch of the CITT was on assessing the impact of imports on a wide variety of domestic Canadian industries within the manufacturing and agriculture sectors. The indicators assessed included sales, production, prices, profits, employment, and investment. As Executive Director, Mr. Erdmann supervised the direction and methods used in staff research and ensured that strict deadlines were met with high quality products that were subject to rigorous scrutiny in public hearings.
Prior to working in the international trade area, Mr. Erdmann was the Director General of the Fiscal and Financial Analysis Branch at EMR (now Natural Resources Canada). Among his earlier assignments were positions at the Canadian Department of Finance (1969-1975 in the agricultural policy section of the Resource Programs Division) and the energy policy area of the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources (1975-1988).
