Economic Sanctions
Cassidy Levy Kent counsels clients in the area of economic sanctions under the laws of the United States and Canada. In the United States, these laws are generally administered by the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). We also have experience helping foreign companies cope with U.S. extraterritorial sanctions measures, including the Cuban Liberty and Democratic Solidarity (LIBERTAD) Act and the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions and Accountability Divestment Act (CISADA), which are administered primarily by the State Department. In Canada, these laws are generally administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada.
With more than 40 years of collective experience, the firm’s attorneys have extensive skill in handling compliance and licensing matters as well enforcement proceedings, ranging from routine information requests, pre-penalty contacts, negotiated settlements, and administrative proceedings arising from penalty actions. We also have handled numerous voluntary disclosures on terms that are favorable to our clients.
